THE Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has appealed to its customers in the State of Osun to pay their current and outstanding bills to forestall prolonged power outage.

IBEDC made the appeal in a notice of power outage sent to its customers on Tuesday.

According to the company, power outage would be experienced from next month due to plans by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to disconnect IBEDC from the national grid over poor remittance.

The notice reads: “We regret to inform you that prolonged power outages will be experienced from next month due to plans by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to disconnect IBEDC from the National grid over poor remittances.

“Therefore, we appeal to our esteemed customers to pay 100% of their current and outstanding bills immediately, to enable IBEDC meet its financial obligations to the value chain and avert the pending disconnection”.

Speaking with OSUN DEFENDER, the Public Relations Officer of IBEDC, Osun region, Mrs. Kikelomo Owoeye said the company was losing a lot of revenue to those who are not paying their bills, adding that it has become difficult to meet up with TCN requirements.

She said: “I just want to appeal to our customers to pay their current and outstanding bills. The money we are getting is not enough to cater for the power we are getting from TCN.

“There are lots of customers who have outstanding debts. Also, some have bypassed the meter, thereby turning into a loss of revenue for us. The situation is not a child’s play and we have been given an ultimatum that we must meet if we don’t want the power outages.

“The situation is not in our hand. We can only appeal to our customers to help us in settling their bills. If we don’t have enough revenue to pay for the power, the TCN will remove us from the national grid”.
