Customs Hand Over Seized Cartons Of Counterfeit Drugs To NAFDAC

A total of 1,198 cartons of seized fake drugs was on Wednesday handed over to the National Agency for Foods, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) by the Sokoto Zonal Command of the Nigerian Customs Service.

The Area Controller, Comptroller Musa Omale, while handing over the seized items to the agency at the Sokoto zonal office said the seizure was in line with the collaboration policy thrust of the Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

He stressed that unregistered pharmaceutical drugs pose great danger to the nation, adding that the problem of counterfeit drugs is a global scourge that the whole world is grappling with.

He assured NAFDAC of the command’s unflinching support for its fight against counterfeit drugs.

He, however, warned smugglers to desist from the act as the Command was battle-ready to curtail the nefarious deed.

He said, ”For control, importation of Pharmaceutical Drugs through the land border is not allowed.

“The Service has streamlined the importation of all Pharmaceutical Drugs through designated seaports, and are only cleared after meeting the pre-requisite documentation.”

Drugs handed over include 450 Cartons of Real Extra Tablet, 405 cartons of sex enhancement drugs, 148 cartons of condoms, 30 cartons of Vernos chewable drugs, and others.

The Sokoto NAFDAC Coordinator, Garba Adamu, thanked the service for the unwavering synergy and collaboration toward safeguarding the life and health of Nigerians.
