The Comptroller of Customs in Kebbi State, Mr. Ernest Iheanacho, revealed that the joint border patrol team on intelligence-based patrol intercepted 6,250 sacks of dynamite explosives en route to Kebbi along Yauri-Jega road.
The explosives, according to him, were loaded in a canter vehicle with registration number Zur 882 ZY, which was intercepted immediately, leading to the arrest of the driver, one Abdullahi Aliyu, who was billed to hand over to Alhaji Mustapha Garba Jega, the receiver.
He explained that, upon the discovery of the items, both intelligence units of the joint patrol team examined them and confirmed that the items were explosives; similarly, Haojue motorcycle was also arrested in connection with the items.
Iheanacho also stated that due to the dangerous nature of the items, the command decided to hand over the explosives to the Department of Security Services (DSS) as the rightful custodians.
Receiving the explosives, a deputy director of DSS, Kebbi Command, Mr Tony Oduwalu, who represented the state director of DSS, said that the handing over of the explosives was a demonstration of healthy interagency collaborations, to which he appealed to customs to sustain the tempo, saying no agency can do it alone. “We need each other to succeed. We thank you so much.
Earlier, the two bodies signed the handover documents before the physical handing over. “I hand over these explosives to you on behalf of the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs, who instructed me to do so,” he said.
