Dangote Group Takes Custody Of Ruth Otabor’s Remains
Representatives of Dangote Group on Sunday took custody of the remains of Ruth Otabor, younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, who died after being hit by a truck belonging to the company near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State.
Ruth had her leg amputated following the accident but died on Sunday morning, weeks after the incident.
Her family confirmed the death through a statement issued by Eko Solicitors & Advocates, announcing that she passed away at about 6:30 a.m. on August 31, 2025.
“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025 at about 06:30Hrs,” the statement read.
The grieving family appealed for privacy, saying burial arrangements would be communicated in due course.
A source disclosed to Punch that Dangote representatives were contacted immediately after Ruth’s death and took her body to the mortuary.
“When she died this morning, the representatives of Dangote Group were contacted and notified. They later came and took the corpse to the mortuary. We are expecting that they take over the expenses of her burial, since they had stepped in to take over her medical expenses,” the source said.
Another relative, while describing Ruth as cheerful and affectionate, recalled that she was fondly called “Bobo” within the family.
Eyewitnesses said the truck crushed her leg before being stopped by a bystander.
Phyna had earlier demanded that her sister be flown to India for treatment.
Dangote Group confirmed the incident, stating that its officials visited the scene, liaised with law enforcement, and pledged full medical support and compensation in line with its welfare policy.
