David de Gea is ‘the only world class player Manchester United have got’, claimed Gary Neville
The former defender has said that Manchester United have only one world class player in their ranks.
David de Gea has been in inspired form for Jose Mourinho’s side this season and Neville believes his consistency has made his standout amongst the other teammates this season.
The Sky Sports pundit believes none of United’s other star men, including Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba, can be considered among the best on the planet.
But he concedes that Sanchez may still reach that level once he settles in following his arrival from Arsenal in January
‘De Gea’s the only world-class player Manchester United have got,’
‘You could maybe say Sanchez, but not at Manchester United yet, even if he has been at a level for the last five or six years that you would say is world class.’
De Gea kept the first leg of United’s last 16 Champions League clash with Sevilla goalless last week, making a pivotal point-blank save from a Luis Muriel header at the end of the first-half.
De Gea claimed the club’s Player of the Year for three consecutive seasons between 2013 and 2016 and has been similarly impressive in 2017-18.
Neville added: ‘De Gea’s the only player Manchester United have got at this moment in time that I would say has performed for the club at a world-class level.
‘But to me de Gea is their stand-out player in terms of world standard at the club without a shadow of a doubt.’
