Declare State of Emergency, Nigeria Is Becoming A Mafia State – Pastor Tunde Bakare

Respected cleric and former presidential aspirant, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has raised the alarm over what he termed Nigeria’s steady descent into a mafia state, calling on citizens to declare a state of emergency across the country in the face of growing tyranny and deepening national woes.

Speaking during a State of the Nation address at The Citadel Global Community Church, Oregun, Lagos, on Sunday, Bakare decried the pervasive atmosphere of “political banditry,” legislative recklessness, rising insecurity, and a gross abuse of power at the highest levels of government.

The fiery preacher warned that the situation in Nigeria had gone beyond mere political misjudgements and had entered the realm of “organised injustice and gangster governance.”

“What we have seen since the beginning of the year is nothing short of a descent into tyranny,” Bakare thundered from the pulpit.

“It is clear that our so-called leaders are determined to turn Nigeria into a mafia state. Citizens must rise, not just to watch, but to act. We must declare a state of emergency on this failing system.”

Bakare did not mince words in criticising President Bola Tinubu’s recent actions, particularly the declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State, which he described as a dangerous precedent.

He also slammed the National Assembly’s role in the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing it as an act of legislative irresponsibility aimed at silencing dissent and enabling impunity.

The cleric, known for his blunt and fearless interventions on national issues, warned that Nigeria’s challenges extend beyond a faulty constitution and lie squarely in the hands of those wielding power.

“Tell Mr President to stop playing God,” Bakare said, “and begin to govern with justice, humility, and the fear of the Almighty.”

He further called on Nigerians not to be silent in the face of oppression, urging them to resist every form of injustice with unity and moral clarity.

As killings and insecurity ravage communities, especially in Plateau State and other flashpoints, Bakare said time was running out for Nigeria to save itself from anarchy.

The outspoken preacher concluded by charging the Nigerian people to awaken from docility and demand accountability.

“If we don’t act now, the generation coming behind us will inherit nothing but ruins, ” he warned.
