Defamation: Peter Obi Drags Deji Adeyanju To Court, Demands N1bn Damages
Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dragged activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, before an Anambra State High Court sitting in Onitsha for allegedly making baseless and defamatory remarks against him.
Obi accused the lawyer of using his social media handles to make scandalous, reckless, and malicious statements against him.
He asked the court to order Adeyanju to tender an unreserved apology.
He also demanded the sum of N1 billion as general damages and N500 million as
exemplary damages.
Reacting, Adeyanju noted that Obi didn’t chicken out after threatening to take legal action against him.
Adeyanju said, “Finally, Peter Obi has sued me. I am actually happy and relieved that he didn’t chicken out in the end.
“Interestingly, he dragged me all the way to Anambra State, even though he is almost always in Abuja where I reside. But no shaking, we move.”
