The ministry of sports and youth development has awarded the hosting of the 7th national youth games to Delta state.
This was revealed in a statement by the ministry of sports on Thursday, stated that the choice of Delta was reached at a meeting of stakeholders in the state capital on Wednesday.
OSUN DEFENDER reports that the youth games have since inception become a ground for discovering the talent that abound within the country.
This year’s edition is expected to hold in Asaba from February 8 to 18.
“Many of the discovered athletes have been nurtured to elite level by the ministry where several of them have been excelling at the international stage by posting podium performances for Nigeria,” the statement reads.
“It has also promoted national unity, curbed age cheating and youth restiveness as well as establish a standard programme for athletes’ succession.”
The ministry also said that all the events for the games would hold at the Dennis Osadebay University in Asaba.
