There was congestion in traffic flow in Osogbo, the Osun State capital today June 12 as members of various pressure groups under the umbrella of Osun Civil Societies Coalition staged a peaceful procession to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day.
The demonstration is said to be part of the activities lined up to celebrate the 31st anniversary of June 12.
The procession which started from Ayetoro in Osogbo went through Old-Garage, Igbona market to the popular Olaiya junction, saw the groups singing various solidarity songs, advocating for more equitable rule from the government.
The groups brandished several banners with different inscriptions written on them and demanded the government to put an end to the plight Nigerians are facing.

Some of the inscriptions displayed included: “End Hunger And Insecurity”, “Cows Are Not Nigerians”, “Ebi n Pa Wa”, and “We are Yet to Enjoy Fruits of Democracy” among others.
There was the presence of security operatives at the scenes of the procession.
Osun Defender also observed that some residents, market women, and student bodies also joined the procession.
The coalition is presently at the Adolak Event Hall, Osogbo holding a public lecture.
Osun Defender reports that today’s June 12 annual procession, coincides with the 25th anniversary of Nigeria’s return to democratic rule.
