The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has said troops arrested more than 147 suspected terrorists and criminals, while also rescuing 39 kidnapped victims across the country in the past week.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen Markus Kangye, disclosed this on Thursday while briefing reporters in Abuja.

He said the troops also foiled the theft of crude oil worth N19.8 million in the Southsouth.

According to him, between September 15 and Monday, troops of Operation Hadin Kai in the Northeast arrested 26 suspected terrorist collaborators and rescued three kidnapped victims.

He added that vehicles, motorcycles, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and large quantities of fabrics were recovered from terrorists.

Maj-Gen Kangye further explained that troops arrested 80 suspected terrorists, including two leaders identified as Abubakar Ahmadu and Saawuan Wuaiyolna. He noted that Wuaiyolna was a member of a notorious syndicate already on the military’s wanted list.

In the Southsouth, troops arrested 19 suspected oil thieves and nine other criminals, while also rescuing nine kidnapped victims.

“Troops also discovered and destroyed 16 illegal refining sites, 14 crude oil cooking ovens, seven dugout pits, 11 boats, and eight storage tanks,” Kangye stated.
