The Chairman, Elders Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State, Chief Sola Akinwumi has described a chieftain of the party, Alhaji Fatai Diekola as ‘a man dancing naked in the public’.
According to Akinwumi, Diekola breached the expected quality of ‘an elder’ with his recent outburst against Governor Rauf Aregbesola, saying that ‘an elder must be reserved and cautious of what to say in the public’.
Akinwumi stated this on telephone whenCityMirrorNews called him to confirm the rumoured suspension of Diekola from the APC elders’ council on Wednesday.
Unconfirmed rife information has it that the APC elder’ council at its yesterday –Tuesday’s March 7, 2017, meeting suspended Diekola from the council.
At the meeting were APC Chairman in the state, Prince Gboyega Famodun, former governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Senator Bayo Salamii, Alhaji Wale Lasisi, Chief Isa Ojewale, Elder Peter Babalola, among others.
Speaking with CityMirrorNews on phone, Chief Akinwumi who was the chairman of the meeting said: “It is not true that we suspend Fatai (Diekola); he was not even in our agenda for the meeting. We do not suspend him, we just cautioned him.
“Anybody that is referred to as an elder must be reserved, courteous and have some level of decorum. He said what he said to the public and the public has been responding. Fatai must have said what he said out of ignorance and lack of political understanding. But the people are coming out to reply him.
“Fatai is just a man dancing naked in the public. An elderly person don’t talk anyhow, an elder must be reserved. We do not suspend him, we just caution him on his talks. Fatai did not offend us; he said what he said to the public. We don’t have the power to suspend anybody; we are just to give advice to the party and as well cautioned anybody or group that wants to cause crisis in the party.”
