Disappointment As Corps Members Get ₦33,000 Despite FG’s Increment
In what appears to be a wave of disappointment, many National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) corps members have taken to social media to express their dismay after receiving ₦33,000 as their monthly allowance, despite a recent announcement that they would he getting ₦77,000 as allowance going forward.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), through its spokesperson Caroline Embu, last Wednesday, confirmed that the Federal Government had approved an increase in corps members’ monthly allowances to ₦77,000.This was said to be in line with the newly enacted National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.
The statement also referenced a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by its Chairman, Ekpo Nta.

“The NYSC Boss is thankful to the Federal Government for the timely gesture and is optimistic that it will not only bring much-needed succour to the corps members but also boost their morale,” Embu had said.
But the unexpected development has sparked reactions across various platforms from the corps members.
A Twitter user, Bookxy, voiced their frustration, questioning whether the ₦77,000 increase was a scam after receiving only ₦33,000.
“After all the delay? So the 77k was a scam after all? NYSC go whine you but no panic,” the tweet read.
The user also attached a screenshot showing the ₦33,000 credit alert, adding to the growing confusion among corps members.
Another disgruntled member, Desmond Blessing, shared similar sentiments, writing, “This is not wat we were promised #nysc,” along with a screenshot of his credit alert.
The notification displayed a payment of ₦33,000 instead of the expected ₦77,000, further fueling the discontent.
In a more humorous but equally serious reaction, NSNV, another corps member, posted a meme showing a confused monkey reading a piece of paper.
The caption read, “Me looking at the 33k alert after FG and NYSC promised us 77k.” This encapsulated the disappointment shared by many corps members who had eagerly anticipated the significant pay rise.
Before this, the monthly allowance for corps members was ₦33,000, which had been implemented since 2020 after a previous increment from ₦19,800.
