Dismissed Female Soldier Backtracks, Begs For Case Review
Ex-Nigerian female Soldier, Ruth Ogunleye has appealed to Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja for a review of her case.
Ogunleye ,in a video making the rounds in social media, was seen apologizing to COAS Lagbaja saying “I’m very very sorry sir”
“Sir, I’m very very sorry sir, from the depth of my heart I am sorry. Have mercy on me. For disrespecting you, have mercy. Forgive me sir. Sir, this has to do with my reputation, my name. You know, its not good for one to be stigmatised. Stigma can lead people to death.
“I will also beg you if the case will be reviewed because I feel someone, somewhere tampered with the result. I am very very sorry sir, I don’t want to say much on this video. I don’t want to it be like I am assuming or any assumption. This video is just to apologise to you sir, only you. Dari jimi, ema binu sir (forgive me, i am sorry sir). Please find a place in your heart to forgive me sir. I am very very sorry sir. Thank you sir!”
Ruth had accused a senior officer in the army Colonel I.B Abdulkareem, of rape and sexual harassment.
In January 2024, Ogunleye made the accusations via her TikTok page, @Ogunleyeruthsavage1, where she alleged that Colonel I.B Abdulkareem, Colonel G.S Ogor, and Brigadier General I.B Solebo had made her life unbearable.
She specifically accused Abdulkareem of making repeated attempts to assault her, administering injections against her will, forcibly removing her from her residence, and confining her to a psychiatric hospital for several months after she rejected his sexual advances.
Following these allegations, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.
Following conclusions of ivestifstiongs into her accusations, Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu while addressing journalists On Tuesday, stated that after an exhaustive review of the facts, testimonies, and evidence presented, it was determined that Abdulkareem did not commit the offences alleged by Ogunleye.

Onyema stated that medical reports following an evaluation at the National Hospital in Abuja indicated that Ogunleye was suffering from a condition that rendered her medically vulnerable.
He said, “Consequently, the Nigerian Army referred ex-Private Ruth Ogunleye for medical evaluation at the National Hospital in Abuja, following earlier assessments by the Nigerian Army Medical Corps that suggested potential mental health concerns.
Onyema said that, based on her medical condition, the Army had decided not to pursue disciplinary action against Ogunleye. Instead, she was discharged from service on medical grounds.
