Doctor Shot, 5 Kidnapped As Bandits Attack Katsina Hospital

A medical doctor has sustained a gunshot injury, while five persons were kidnapped as bandits attacked the General Hospital in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Kidnapped alongside the five individuals was a staff of the hospital.

Also, no fewer than 10 gunmen have reportedly kidnapped five persons in Odo-Eku community, Isin Local Government Area of Kwara state.

In Katsina, a source in the area revealed that the incident occurred about 7p.m., causing panic among patients and staff as the bandits opened fire.

A medical doctor with the Kankara hospital, Dr. Murtala Dandashire, was reportedly shot while attending to some patients.

“He sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and is currently receiving medical attention,” the source said.

The Katsina State Police Command spokesperson, Sadiq Abubakar, confirmed the attack, saying the incident was currently under investigation.

In Kwara State, members of the vigilante groups, hunters and other security agencies have been deployed to the bush of the surrounding community in their bid to rescue the victims.

It was gathered that the incident happened in the night of Tuesday, when the people of the community were said to be in a deep sleep.

The bandits were said to have invaded the community, shooting sporadically into the air, a development that awoke the residents, who ran for safety.

One of the Chiefs in the community, Odofin of Odo-Eku, Elder Ogundeji, who confirmed the incident said that, gunmen stormed the homes of their victims overnight, abducting five people.

“The victims are Hausa farmers who live in Odo-Eku.

“Among them are a woman, her daughter, another woman who was visiting, and two men.”
