Don’t Boycott Primary Election – Ogundokun Advises APC Aspirants

The former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct National Party of Nigeria, NPN, High Chief Abiola Ogundokun, has advised gubernatorial aspirants of the All Progressives Congress, APC, especially those from Iwo, not to boycott tomorrow’s primary election of the party.

He called on all indigenes of Iwo and his environs who are contesting the governorship under the APC to go out and show their strength in the election.

Ogundokun who opined that alleged insinuations should not prevent aspirants from participating in the primary election.

“It is undemocratic to boycott election for whatever reason. The insinuation that a major aspirant has been anointed remains a rumour and a popular aspirant should not believe it.

“My attention has been drawn to the plan by some aspirants to boycott the primary election because of the alleged plan to impose a candidate on them. I want to advise all the aspirants, especially, indigenes of Iwo and its environs, not to believe the rumour.

“All aspirants, especially those that are sure of their popularity should go out and participate in the primary election. They should try to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner and warn their supporters against causing violence.

He maintained that primary election is to test the popularity and acceptance of aspirants by the people and members of the party.

He however advised the leadership of the APC to give level playing ground to all the aspirants in the interest of democracy and love of the people of the state.

The elder statesman urged all stakeholders in the state to give priority to the peace and unity of the state, saying “the unity of the state is paramount as elections will come and go.
