Don’t Lift Ban On Benin Republic, Togo Certificates – NANS To FG

The Federal Government has been urged not to reverse its earlier ban on certificates obtained from universities in Togo and Republic of Benin.

The appeal was made by the National Association of Nigerian Students on Saturday in a statement signed by its National Senate Clerk, Abdul-Yekinn Odunayo, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

NANS warned the Federal Government against yielding to unnecessary pressure over this long overdue policy saying that “doing contrary will only spell doom for the nation and bastardise its stand on qualitative education for its citizens”

The student group bemoaned calls by some Nigerians that the suspension placed by the FG on certificates obtained from institutions in both West African countries should be lifted, argued that reversing the suspension order as a result of such calls can only spell doom for the country.

Odunayo noted that Nigeria as the giant of Africa and a leading light in education in the continent, must not allow substandard certificates from mushroom varsities to be tendered and accepted in Nigeria.

NANS added, “The FG must continue to sanitize the education sector in the country, particularly, the tertiary institutions to ensure delivery of quality and fully baked graduates.

“We reiterate our support for the FG’s suspension of the certificates from Togo and the Republic of Benin and we appeal to President Bola Tinubu-led administration to make adequate funds and infrastructure available in the nation’s tertiary institutions.”
