The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a medical doctor allegedly providing drugs to kidnapping gangs operating in parts of Kwara State.

The suspect, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, was apprehended in the Jebba area following intelligence reports that couriers were transporting medical supplies from Sokoto to treat gunshot injuries among bandits hiding in the state’s forests.

Security sources noted that many criminal groups have sustained injuries in recent clashes with security forces.

“We are advising heightened security measures in health facilities located in forested areas, which may be targeted by kidnappers,” a security official said.

Confirming the arrest, Kwara State Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, described it as a significant breakthrough in the fight against banditry.

“This is a major stride by the DSS. It shows that security agencies are closing in on these criminals and cutting off the support systems that sustain them,” he said.

Ajakaye added that the state government will continue to collaborate with security agencies to dismantle all networks aiding kidnapping operations.
