DSS Denies Invading NLC Headquarters In Abuja

The Department of State Services has denied alleged involvement in the raid of the headquarters of the Nigerian Labour Congress in Abuja.

Recall that on Wednesday, the union in a statement signed by Comrade Benson Upah, Head, Media and Public Relations, and shared on its official X handle on Wednesday, claimed that a troop of heavily armed security operatives invaded the Labour House in the Central Business District, Abuja.

According to the NLC, the incident occurred around 8:30 pm, when security operatives reportedly broke into the Labour House.

Upah stated that the security operatives ransacked the bookshop on the second floor, seizing hundreds of books and other publications.

He said, “The invading team claimed that they were searching for seditious materials allegedly used during the #EndBadGovernance protests.”

The NLC, however, noted that it could not immediately ascertain the full extent of the items taken during the raid.

However, refuting the accusation on Thursday, DSS Spokesperson Peter Afunanya stated that the agency had no involvement in the incident.

“Please kindly note that the Service (DSS) did not carry out any operation at the NLC office in Abuja,” DSS posted on its official X handle on Thursday.
