The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to immediately open the grain reserves and distribute grains to needy Nigerians.
OSUN DEFENDER reports that there have been complaints from different quarters in the country as a result of the persistently high cost of living occasioned by economic hardship and the dwindling cost of the Naira.
The Reps during plenary on Tuesday said the distribution is meant to tackle hunger in the land.
The resolution followed the adoption of a motion of national urgent importance moved by the member representing Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency, Ogun State, Mr Ibrahim Isiaka.
Leading the debate, Isiaka noted the cost of living has become very difficult for Nigerians even as he lamented the rising cost of cement “even though we have all the raw materials for the production.”
He said, “The House resolves to urge the Federal Government and stakeholders to immediately open the food reserves to address the hunger in our country.”
He also called on the apex government to boost food production and distribution.
