President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerian workers that a new national minimum wage is in the offing.
According to the President, the new workers’ minimum pay will be implemented as soon as a review which has started ends.
President Tinubu stated this in a nationwide broadcast to Nigerians on the state of the economy, this evening.
He added that between this month and March 2024, efforts will be geared towards addressing the challenges occasioned by the removal of the fuel subsidy in the areas of support for robust food production, ease in transportation fares, provision of support for small and medium enterprises, among others.
He said the government is also monitoring the exchange rate and the fluctuating prices of gasoline all in a bid to ensure that Nigerians are not affected the more by the current hardship.
According to Tinubu, ” In the same vein, we are also working in collaboration with the Labour unions to introduce a new national minimum wage for workers. I want to tell our workers this: your salary review is coming.
“Once we agree on the new minimum wage and general upward review, we will make budget provision for it for immediate implementation.
“I want to use this opportunity to salute many private employers in the Organised Private Sector who have already implemented general salary review for employees.”
