Ede East LCDA Distributes Cocoa Seedlings, Gmyelina Trees

In a bid to boost cash crops production and to prevent hot climate condition in Ede East Local Council Development Area, the Caretaker Management Committee under the leadership of Honourable Fatoki Rafiu has distributed cocoa seedlings to farmers and Gmyelina trees known as “Igi Iye” to different categories of people including traditional rulers within the LCDA.

According to a statement by the Information Officer, Hammed Oyeniyi, Fatoki who is the Executive Secretary, while distributing the materials said the idea was prompted because of the fact that more than 90 per cent of residents in the council were farmers, hence there is the need to encourage them to produce more.

He stated: “With the recession facing the country presently which called for diversification, there is the need for the government and private sector to, as a matter of necessity encourage farming and this led to the decision of distributing the cocoa seedlings freely to farmers”.

Noting that Agriculture remains a very large employer of labour, he encouraged the people to pay serious attention to it, which he said is lucrative enough to develop the economy.

“Without any doubt, the distribution of cocoa seedlings will in some years to come boost the cash crops production which will eventually boost the economy of our LCDA.

The council boss also said that the distribution of Gmyelina trees known as “Igi Iye” was to prevent hot climate condition in the land and prevent storm in the environment.

According to him, “A bid to prevent the land from hot climate condition and to guide against disaster being usually caused by storm necessitated the distribution of Gmyelina trees to the people”.

Fatoki who used the occasion to highlight his achievements within 100 days in office said, his administration has been able to provide water through the sinking of boreholes at Kusi, Oluyinka and Gaga villages and provision of electricity through the extension of electricity from Alajue market to Aminiwon village, Jagun Iseki to Oyada maternity centre, noting that preparation is in top gear for the construction of office complex at the permanent site.

He then commended the Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for his vision in creating new LCDAs to ensure rapid rural development, just as he enjoined the people to always perform their civic responsibilities by paying their taxes and other levies for the government to be able to perform optimally.

Also, the Olu of Sekona, Oba Abdul Waheed Adebowale advised the Executive Secretary and his cabinet members to make sure that development cut across all the towns and villages in the LCDA.
