Edo 2024: APC Knocks PDP For Calling Shaibu’s Resignation
Following calls in some quarters for the resignation of former deputy governor, Hon. Philip Shaibu from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday blasted the PDP, saying the party should suspend their outgoing governor, Godwin Obaseki for leading them to political obscurity.
Shaibu had on Sunday openly declared his support for the PDP’s governorship candidate, Sen. Monday Okpebholo.
In a statement by the Publicity Director, Senator Monday Okpebholo Governorship Campaign Council, Comrade Orobosa Omo-Ojo, the APC welcomed the support publicly pledged by Shaibu and also condemned the call in some quarters for Shaibu’s resignation.
Justifying the suspension call, the APC alleged that Governor Godwin Obaseki was one leg in the PDP and the other in the Labour Party (LP) during the 2023 general elections.

Part of the statement by Omo-Ojo reads “PDP should first suspend His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki and the party’s running mate, Osarodion Ogie for spending the state’s resources to build structure for the Labour Party in Edo State, before the last general election before and during LP’s primary elections which the duo funded and had planned to produce their stooge.
“It is obvious that PDP is yet to understand the hurricane that has happened in their party. Virtually everyone with political relevance has left and those left are only lying and waiting as undertakers to bury them.
“Rather than ask Shaibu to resign, PDP should suspend their outgoing governor, Obaseki for leading them to political obscurity in Edo State.”
He said Shaibu is an “iroko” and a true definition homeboy and a political giant in the state like the party’s candidate.
The statement said that the PDP should find out how its candidate and his deputy would bring on board to the state after have served the state for 28 years adding that “The only sane thing left for PDP, is to join Obaseki and Ighodalo on a pleading tour of the state and beg for forgiveness, especially after last week’s confession by the state government that question papers for Basic Examination in the state was leaked to Public School teachers in the state, which eventually ended up with maize sellers.
“We are by this statement demanding that Edo State Government should immediately set up an independent panel of enquiry to investigate the circumstances that led to the series of examination questions leakages that have trailed so-called Edo Best education programme since 2020.”
