The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shuaibu, stormed the National Secretariat of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday, insisting on being given his certification of return.
Osun Defender had reported indications that the Shuaibu may lose out on the gubernatorial ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the forthcoming election in the state.
Shuaibu had contested and won a parallel primary last week in Benin City to emerge as the party’s candidate.
However, the party has noted that it is set to present a Certificate of Return to the other winner of the primary held in the state, Dr Asuerinme Ighodalo, on Tuesday.
A statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said “Following the successful completion of the Edo State governorship primary election and the ratification of the exercise by the appeal panel, the National Working Committee of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, hereby announces the presentation of the Certificate of Return to Dr Asuerinme Ighodalo, the elected candidate of our party for the September 21, 2024 governorship election in Edo State.”
The statement was titled, “PDP presents Certificate of Return to its Edo State Governorship Election Candidate, Dr. Asuerinme Ighodalo.”
But Shaibu while speaking in Abuja said “Today is the day set aside for the collection of certificate of return for the winner of the primary. I understand someone came yesterday and was given, well, the court will decide…”
