Edo Guber: Police Officer Campaigns Against PDP Candidate

A spy Police officer has called on eligible voters to reject the incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state and the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Asue Ighodalo, in the upcoming gubernatorial election.

In a viral video, the officer, dressed in his Spy Police uniform, accused the incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki and the PDP candidate of committing “crimes against the people of Edo State.”

He further encouraged the electorate to use the election as an opportunity to fight back, claiming the governor and his chosen successor had betrayed democracy and stolen the state’s resources.

“The election is not about the APC, PDP, or the Labour Party. It is about the act Governor Obaseki and Asue Ighodalo committed against the good people of Edo State. They have fought and betrayed democracy, abandoned the rule of law, and stolen our resources. This is the time to judge them,” the officer said.

Reacting to the incident, the Nigeria Police Force, through its spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, condemned the officer’s actions.

Adejobi clarified that the individual was not a regular officer of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) but a Supernumerary (Spy) Police Officer trained by the NPF for specific security duties, typically in private employment.

He added, “These officers are not on the NPF payroll and do not take the oath of allegiance required for regular police officers, granting them freedom of expression and the right to affiliate with political parties.

“However, the police disapproved of the officer wearing his official uniform while engaging in political discourse, which led to his arrest for further investigation.

“The Police frown at the wearing of his official Spy uniform while participating in political activities. The individual involved has been arrested and is undergoing further investigation.”
