Edo Orders LGA Heads to Take 30-Day Compulsory Leave
The Edo State Local Government Service Commission has directed all Heads of Local Government Administration across the state’s 18 councils to proceed on compulsory leave for 30 working days.
Chairman of the commission, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto, made this announcement on Wednesday while briefing journalists on the outcome of the commission’s inspection of the local government councils.
He said the affected officers must hand over to the Directors of Administrative and General Services in their councils during the leave.
Adjoto, accompanied by other commission members, explained that the measure aims to improve administrative operations at the local government level.
He said, “The Local Government Service Commission has reviewed the existing administrative framework across the 18 local government councils. Consequently, the commission directs all Heads of Local Government Administration to proceed on compulsory leave with immediate effect.
“This action will allow a thorough assessment of posting, staff deployment, and record management practices, ensuring transparency and restoring confidence in the local government system.
“It also provides an opportunity for a fresh administrative perspective as part of our reform agenda and in response to feedback from our familiarisation visit. During this period, the Directors of Administrative and General Services will oversee daily operations of each council. All concerned officers are expected to comply without delay.”
Adjoto added that the commission is committed to repositioning the local government workforce to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach the grassroots. He also revealed that the ongoing digitalisation exercise uncovered 382 shadow files and 132 retired files.
Governor Monday Okpebholo had sworn in Adjoto as Chairman of the commission on August 16.
The former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly had pledged to retool local government administration and prioritise workers’ welfare for improved service delivery.
