Edo Poll: Oshiomhole Mocks Obaseki’s Wife For Being Childless
Adams Oshiomhole, the former governor of Edo State and current senator representing Edo North, has sparked controversy with his recent comments about Governor Godwin Obaseki and his wife, Betsy Obaseki.
Oshiomhole stated that the Obasekis do not have a love for children, citing their childlessness as evidence.
Oshiomhole’s comments were in response to an alleged statement made by Betsy Obaseki, claiming that the APC governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, was the only contender without a wife.
However, Oshiomhole in a video by TVC, countered the claim, saying that the Obasekis have been childless since their marriage and have not adopted any children, indicating a lack of love for children.

He said, “I was shocked yesterday to see Mrs. Obaseki, the first lady, saying that our candidate has no wife. She is the most, I’m sorry that she has to say that, because here is a woman who has no child. Between him and Obaseki, they have no child, they are childless,” Oshiomhole said.
“They are even not ready to adopt. I mean, I don’t blame, anybody should not have a child. But people who have love for children, they go to motherless home and adopt children. They have not adopted, they are both in their 60s. So you married, I don’t know whether it’s a contract or whatever it is, but they have no child,” Oshiomhole added.

The former governor emphasized that the Obasekis’ childlessness is a personal choice, but one that raises questions about their commitment to family values.
He contrasted this with the APC governorship candidate, Okpebholo, who has children who are well-educated and have been actively involved in his campaign.
“Now our candidate not only have children, he has invested in the education of those children, such that you watch them on live television, covered by your media stations, where the first one that spoke is a lawyer, the second one is a medical doctor, and they had dressed the crowd in a Edo South, in a Edo Central, in Edo North, and their mother was there,” Oshiomhole said.
He pointed out that Okpebholo’s children and wife have been visible throughout the campaign, participating in rallies and events across the state. He noted that this demonstrates Okpebholo’s commitment to family and his ability to balance his political career with his personal life.
In contrast, Oshiomhole suggested that the Obasekis’ childlessness and lack of involvement in family activities raises questions about their ability to connect with ordinary people and understand their needs. He implied that a leader who does not value family may not be able to prioritize the needs of their constituents.
