Our inquests have shown that Osun West Senatorial District has enjoyed about N11 billion, specifically N10,810,000,000 worth of investment in the education sector since 2010 till now.
Already, six Model Elementary schools built and commissioned with 150 classrooms:
Iwo=2; Ayedaade=I; Ayedire =1; Ede South= 2 each at the cost of N1.5 billion.
Also built and commissioned within the same period are 7 Model Middle schools with 175 classrooms (Irewole=1; Ejigbo= 1; Iwo=2; Ayedaade=2) at the cost of N1.8 billion.
The West also has 4 Model High Schools built in Ejigbo, Ede South, Iwo and Irewole local governments at the whopping cost of N2.8 billion
In addition to the above, the Defender Parrot heard that more than six hundred (600) classrooms across 100 models schools were renovated in conjunction with Universal Basic Education Council (UBEC), while
2,094 sets of furniture were supplied to schools across the local governments, local council development areas and area offices in the zone.
For easy mobility of pupils to and from their various schools, about 20 scholar buses and 50 personnel deployed to the Senatorial zone; more than 50,000 students have benefited from the Opon-Imo project in 3 years.
Over 2,000 Osun Youth Employment Scheme (O’YES) cadets from that zone were deployed to different schools as teachers, while about 1, 076 regular teachers were recruited. About nine hundred (900) teachers were trained in not less than 26 different training programmes and workshops organized with State resources. Also, more than 6,000 teaching and non-teaching staffers were promoted from the zone.
In the Osun West zone, more than eighty-four thousand (84,000) pupils get fed daily under the O’MEAL school feeding programme through which over 1,000 cooks were employed.
The above results into about 68 million plate delicious meals have been served since 2012 across 500 schools at the cost of N4.8 billion.
In conclusion, the Defender Parrot discovered that close to three hundred thousand (300,000) school uniforms were distributed free to students across the 10 LGAs that constitute the Osun West Senatorial District.
We interviewed indigenes across the zone and the common responses were that of deep appreciation and admiration for the government for its huge investments in education despite the acknowledged paucity of funds.
