EFCC Chairman Orders Arrest Of His Men For Assaulting Hotel Staff

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has ordered the arrest of two officers of the Commission allegedly involved in the manhandling of a female staff of Regional Hotel, Ojo, Lagos.

In a video trending online, the EFCC officials who dressed in mufti were seen badging into one of the rooms of the hotel.

An unidentified lady said to be a worker at the hotel was seen trying to open the door from inside when the men opened it forcefully.

One of them was seen slapping the lady repeatedly before he ordered her out of the room.

The incident was captured on Closed Circuit Television (CCTV).

In his statement, EFCC Spokesperson, Mr. Dele Oyewale said the incident happened during an early morning sting operation.

He said the operation led to the arrest of a sizable number of suspects who were still being profiled.

“The EFCC’s boss has also ordered detailed investigations of the operation carried out at the hotel and assured that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against any of the officers found to be culpable,” the statement read.

“Olukoyede assures the general public that the EFCC would continue to ply its job professionally and with profound respect for the rule of law.”

Meanwhile, the EFCC has arrested three men; Dennis Baba Wdony, Wycliffe Midala, and Samuel Kayode Melaye over alleged impersonation.

According to the EFCC, the suspects were arrested for allegedly claiming to be military officers and impersonating the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) to award fake contracts.

The agency made this known via its X handle on Thursday, June 27, stating that the suspects advertise fake bids for contracts in the office of the CDS.

According to the EFCC, a victim claimed to have lost N21m to them.

The post reads: “The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, arrested Dennis Baba Wdony, Wycliffe Midala, and Samuel Kayode Melaye for allegedly parading themselves as military officers and using the office of the Chief of Defence Staff to defraud unsuspecting members of the public through fake contract awards.

“Investigations showed that the suspects operate a three-man syndicate which advertises fake bids for contracts in the office of the Chief of Defence Staff.

“Their arrest followed multiple petitions received by the Commission in respect of their fraudulent activities. In one of the petitions, a victim claimed a loss of N21 million to their antics.

“They will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.”
