Following the raid and arrest of students by agents of Economic and Financial Crime Commission in the wee hours of Wednesday, the management of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, has said it will not allow innocent students to suffer.
The University’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju, made this know while speaking to Osun Defender correspondent.
Olanrewaju, who said although some students, due to youthful exuberance, may be exhibiting criminal tendencies stated that the university management is not under the illusion they have criminal intent.
He stated further that the university had intervened by sending a team to EFCC office in Ibadan, to ascertain the number of students arrested and next plan of action.
According to him” We are very much conscious of the fact that some people are reckless and among them our student. We are not acting under the illusion that our students are doing some criminal activities but what we don’t want is for the innocent ones to suffer.
As I’m talking to you now, we’re on our way to Ibadan to know the exact number of our students that were arrested, we profile them and after that we report to the management, then we now know what to do”.
Commenting on the situation on campus, he said the university environment is calm as the arrest was not made on campus premises.
“Every where is calm. Please know that the students were not arrested on campus. They were arrested at different hostels outside the campus but that is not to say that we will not take care of our students because one of the mantra of administration in the University is that it is the welfare of staff and students and we can’t say that because they were arrested outside the campus we just keep quiet like that.
“To them, we are like their parent and we also see them as our children as well. We are going to Ibadan the zonal office of the agency now to know what to do”, he added.
