El-Rufai Alleges Plot To Arrest, Detain Him At NSA’s Dungeon

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has raised the alarm over an alleged plot to arrest and detain him in a dungeon within the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu.

El-Rufai, in a post on his X handle in the early hours of Tuesday, claimed that the same facility was used to force the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, into resigning his position.

The former governor, known for his vocal political stance, alleged that the move was part of a grand scheme to intimidate him into self-imposed exile.

He, however, vowed not to succumb to pressure, declaring that he would spend more time in Nigeria than ever before.

“I have been hearing these same rumours of arrest, detention, and torture in some dungeon in the NSA’s office (where Emefiele was allegedly tortured to resign as CBN governor) since July 2024 when the so-called report of the Kaduna Assembly began circulating,” he stated.

El-Rufai suggested that his refusal to be silenced had rattled some political forces, who, in his words, were going to great lengths to manipulate the judicial process against him.

He further alleged that threats and intimidation messages had been sent to his associates, urging him to leave the country.

“They have sent such similar messages of intimidation and threats through many of my friends, family and political associates because they want me to go on self-imposed exile. I will not,” he declared defiantly.

He insisted that silence was no longer an option and vowed to fight against what he described as political persecution.

“I have now put all my previous academic and language-learning plans on hold and will spend more time in Nigeria than ever before,” he added.

El-Rufai, who has been arrested and detained in the past for his outspoken views, stated that political intimidation was nothing new and that he remained unshaken.

He maintained that ultimate power belonged to God, and he was ready for whatever fate had in store.

“For the attention of the pathetic characters that don’t sleep well whenever I am in Nigeria, take notice that I intend to return in time for the launch of President IBB’s memoirs, In Sha Allah, scheduled for 20th February,” he affirmed.

Reaffirming his faith, he declared, “We depend on no one but Allah. We fear no mortal but Almighty Allah. We always hope for the best but plan for the worst.”

As of press time, the office of the NSA had not responded to El-Rufai’s claims.
