El-Rufai Urges Nigerians To Sack APC In 2027, Says Party Threatens National Unity

A former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has called on Nigerians to vote out the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, describing the party as a threat to the nation’s unity and stability.

El-Rufai, who was a founding member of the APC and served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, made the remarks on Saturday while addressing a gathering of youths in Sokoto State.

The meeting formed part of mobilisation efforts for an emerging opposition coalition ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Speaking pointedly, El-Rufai accused the APC of abandoning the core principles upon which it was founded, labelling the party as “incompetent and clannish.”

According to him, the current administration has failed in its duty to serve the Nigerian people and has instead deepened divisions across ethnic and religious lines.

“I didn’t get into politics to enrich myself but to serve. And when a government ceases to serve the people, it is my duty as a senior citizen to not only speak out but take action to reverse the situation,” El-Rufai declared.

The outspoken politician maintained that Nigeria’s continued existence as a united entity would remain in jeopardy should the APC retain power beyond 2027.

He urged young Nigerians to rise above partisan sentiments and join hands in building a more inclusive and accountable government.

The opposition coalition, to which El-Rufai now belongs, has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform ahead of the next elections. The move is seen as a strategic step to provide a formidable challenge to the ruling party at the federal level.
