Electricity Consumers Lament Difficulties Uploading Recharge Cards

By Murtala Agboola

Electricity consumers in Osogbo, the capital of the State of Osun have been lamenting the harrowing experience of loading their electricity recharge cards, as many of them thronged the office of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) at Station Road, with one complaint or the other.

Some of the IBEDC customers using prepaid meters, lamented that it had been difficult to input figures extracted from the cards procured from the company, while in some cases the cards were rejected by the meters.

A 70 year-old woman narrated how she sent her grandson to purchase card for her, but she could not upload the number and has been visiting IBEDC office since last week without solution.

Another woman who prefered anonymity complained of having switched to her generating set since she was unable to load her card.

One other customer, who described the role of electricity in modern economy as invaluable, said combining erratic nature of power supply with difficulty in uploading recharge card was the least any electricity consumer could think of.

He said: “One would have thought the privatisation of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) electricity behemoth, into generating companies (GENCOS) and Distribution Companies (DISCOS) would have solved all these problems”.

He then called on the appropriate authority to look into the matter and find a way of solving the problem quick enough.
