Employee files irregularities charges against Messi Foundation

An Argentine prosecutor has asked for an investigation against Lionel Messi and his father Jorge for alleged irregularities in the management of the Messi Foundation, the Argentine press said Friday.

For the prosecutor Pablo Turano, donations to the Messi Foundation were “diverted, partially, to accounts abroad of the Messi family or third parties, instead of being intended” for humanitarian actions, writes the website of Infobae information.

A member of Messi’s entourage told Clarin newspaper that “the complaint was unfounded”.

Judge Gustavo Meirovich will decide whether there are sufficient grounds to justify the opening of an investigation. A complaint lodged by a former employee of the Messi Foundation is at the origin of the procedure.

The star of FC Barcelona was sentenced in 2016 in Spain for tax evasion to a fine of two million euros and a sentence of 21 months of incarceration, which was then commuted to an additional fine.
