#EndBadGovernance Protest: Don’t Be A Tool Of Vandetta For Politicians – Osun IPAC Urges Residents
The Osun State Chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), has urged residents who will be participating in the proposed nationwide protest not to be a tool of vendetta for politicians against any individual, political office holders, and the government of the day.
Similarly, IPAC appealed to the state government not to use the avenue to
deal negatively with any individual or group but yield to the people’s requests about the economic situation of the nation.
The group also called on the intending protesters not to allow hoodlums to hijack their peaceful protest.
IPAC also advised the intending protesters to safeguard themselves and go about their protest with caution, noting that their lives are significant.
IPAC in a statement on Tuesday, signed by its chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, a copy obtained by Osun Defender, also advised security agencies to carry out their responsibilities during the protest with utmost professionalism, urging them not to provoke the residents.
The statement read, “We, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Osun State Chapter, perfectly understand the present economic situation and the hardship and lack of hope it has caused Nigerians. It’s natural to feel agitated and want to demand better from our leaders/political rulers.
“While we acknowledged the facts it is your right to protest and express your grievances. However, we appeal to you to exercise your right with caution, we can not afford to lose anyone, IPAC cherishes the lives of all indigenes and non-indigenes residing within Osun state.
“We are not oblivious to the sad incidents that trailed some protests in the past and the fear that has gripped the minds of many citizens as a result of the sad experiences of the past protests especially the last ENDSARS, notwithstanding, we will not throw a baby with bath water.
“We, Osun State IPAC under the leadership of Pastor Victor Akande do not want anybody to get hurt, arrested or caught up in any negative activities during this protest. Therefore, it is our candid advice for all those individuals and groups that will be involved in the proposed protest scheduled to begin on the 1st of August 2024 to 10th of August, 2024, not to allow hoodlums, thugs, thieves etc to highjack their peaceful protest from them thereby leading to looting and destruction of government or citizens properties.”
The statement added, “Do not allow disgruntled politicians to use you as a tool of vendetta against any individual, political office holders, and the government of the day.
“We call on the various law enforcement agencies, police, civil defence, Amotekun etc to carry out their legitimate duty of protecting the lives and property of the citizens with all sense of responsibility, decency, and professionalism.
“They should not carry out their duty in any manner that may provoke the protestants and cause chaos in the State.
“We implore the State government not to see or use the protest as an avenue to deal negatively with any individual or groups but yield to the people’s requests about the economic situation of the nation.
Because it’s only in a peaceful environment that meaningful development can be achieved.
“In as much as we are not in the dark about various steps been taken by the government both at the Federal and State level to alleviate the hardship in the land and ameliorate the living standard of every citizen through various interventions such as sharing of foods and conditional fund transfer to support the vulnerable ones.
“We need to support the government at all levels with prayers and strive to be good, law-abiding citizens wherever we may find ourselves. The character and attitude of people in the corridor of power are the true reflection of the character and attitude of the people of the land.
“We believe that when individual citizens resolve to be better and responsible citizens, our government will get better, our country will get better. This is one of the ways to end bad governance.
“It is our prayers that God will guide and help our Governor, His Excellence, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke in his endeavour to better the lives of our people in Osun State.”
