#EndBadGovernance Protests: Violence Erupts In Jos As Protesters Ignore Curfew

Violence broke out in the Dilimi area of Jos North Local Government Area on Monday as the #EndBadGovernance protests escalated, leading to widespread chaos.

In a video obtained by Osun Defender, the unrest began when a large crowd of demonstrators gathered in Dilimi, ignoring the curfew that had been put in place by the Plateau State government to curb the growing protests.

Despite the efforts of the security forces, the protests showed no signs of abating. Demonstrators remained resolute in their demands for government accountability and an end to bad governance.

Osun Defender recalls that the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has declared a 24-hour curfew in Jos and Bukuru metropolis.

 

In a statement on Sunday night, the governor said the curfew was imposed in the affected areas following reported cases of looting of goods in the Bauchi Road community and Zolo Junction by hoodlums on Sunday.

A statement signed by the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, read, ” In a decisive move to enhance the security of lives and maintain public order, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Jos/Bukuru Metropolis, effective from midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
