England Call Up Nigerian-Born Midfielder Eze To U-20 Team
Nigeria risk losing Ebere Eze to England after the talented midfielder was handed invitation to the latter’s U-20 side on Friday.
Eze, 20, trained with the Super Eagles along with Chuba Akpom and Ola Aina in London in March 2017, following their botched friendly with Burkina Faso.
He was expected to follow in the footsteps of Aina who has been capped at international level by Nigeria, but missed out on a place in Nigeria’s squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
That hope could now be dashed with his latest invitation to the young Lions squad for the friendlies against against Italy and Czech Republic on October 11 and 15 respectively.
Eze has been in fantastic form for QPR in the English Championship this season scoring three goals 11 appearances.
The midfielder expressed his delight to the team, the first time he will be involved in international football.
“You want to be called up for international football and it is a great honour to have been. It’s a really good milestone for me,” Eze told QPR’s official website.
“I found out on Thursday night. I got a bit of an inkling from the Doctor as the FA had spoken to him and I’m really excited.
“It will be a good experience, I’ve never been involved before so I am looking forward to seeing what it is like.”
