Enugu Gov Meets Tinubu After Defection, Seeks Stronger Federal Collaboration
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State met with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, on Wednesday, just days after officially defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The meeting, which takes place amid growing political realignments in the South-East, focuses on fostering closer cooperation between the Enugu State Government and the Federal Government to accelerate development in the state.
In a post shared on his official X handle, Mbah disclosed that discussions with the President centred on strengthening partnerships that would bring about prosperity for the people of Enugu.
He wrote, “Today, I had the honour of meeting with His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, at the State House, Abuja. We discussed ways to strengthen collaboration between Enugu State and the Federal Government to deliver greater prosperity for our people. Enugu remains fully committed to playing its part in building a stronger, united, and more prosperous Nigeria.”
Governor Mbah’s defection to the APC was formalised during a recent press conference held in Enugu, where he explained that the move was driven by his desire to align Enugu’s development agenda with the policies of the Federal Government.
He described his decision as “a strategic move for visionary partnership that would bring transformative change” to both Enugu State and the country at large.
The governor, who was accompanied by his predecessor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and some federal and state lawmakers, emphasised that the defection was made in the best interest of Enugu people.
