Enugu state has banned obscene dressing and applied a new dress code for students and staff.
Christian Anieke, Vice Chancellor of Godfrey okoye University announced on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 while Speaking to the staff and students returning from the Christmas and new year holiday.
According to Aneke, each faculty has their uniforms and all student should wear their faculty uniform with appropriate ties and shoe
“No student is expected to wear slippers, rugged jeans, coloured hair, long fingers, fez caps or artificial eyelashes,” he directed.
Mr Anieke expressed regret that most students wear unauthorized cloth. In addition to the new dress code, male students are ordered to comb or shave their hairs properly.
“Principal officers of the institutions will henceforth visit the lecture halls to assess the lectures by the academic staff while the non-teaching staff will submit their roll calls at the beginning and closing of each day’s activities,” Mr Anieke explained.
“Students who fail to attend lectures will not be allowed to sit for examinations.
The government of Anambra state, under Prof. Charles Soludo, has banned the wearing of miniskirts as a school uniform in all schools in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, in Awka on Sunday, September 18, 2022.
According to the commissioner, the announcement of the ban became necessary as schools resume on Monday.
She said the ban had been communicated to Education Secretaries of public and private schools in the state.
The commissioner condemned the growing trend of wearing miniskirts as school uniforms and said it was morally wrong and unacceptable in children of school age.
“A student should look smart, well-groomed, project positive vibes, and to be properly dressed for school
“The acceptable length for uniforms in the state remains knee length and not above the knee, which is fast becoming the fashion trend in schools,’’ she noted.
