The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general elections for Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Pharmacist Olasiji Olamiju – AKOL, have raised the alarm over attack on leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Esa-Oke, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun.
The APC candidate, in a statement, noted that with just a day to the election, APC members are being attacked, harassed, and intimidated in different parts of Esa-Oke and pleaded with the state government to deploy adequate security to Esa-Oke and other parts of his constituency so as to save his people from attacks.
Olamiju accused the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Oluwole Oke, of masterminding the attacks, because of fears of losing the election.
While calling on security agencies to urgently wade into the issue and arrest the situation, as the attackers, mostly youths, have allegedly been armed with sophisticated weapons, to harass APC members, AKOL expressed dismay that the late Bola Ige’s town would come under attack by the PDP, and the Police in the area would feign ignorance.
The statement read in part: “We are now confronted with one of the worst political violence in Esa-Oke, Obokun local government. On a daily basis, thugs loyal to the PDP candidate are brutalising our members. We have it on good authority, that the PDP candidate, Wole Oke procured all manners of arms, to cause mayhem before and during the election. This is because he knows he will fail.
This evening after a successful campaign in Ibokun, Ijebu-jesa and Esa-Oke with our leader, Senator Iyiola Omisore, we are shocked when eight (8) fully armed men who alighted from four (4) motorcycles started shooting sporadically into the compound of APC House of Representatives candidate, Dr. Olasiji Olamiju where one person sustained gun injury and several others were macheted.
This is, indeed, sad. It has confirmed our earlier position that the PDP candidate purchased guns for some hoodlums.
The acts of intimidation and unleashing of terror by the PDP have become increasingly brazen, reckless, monstrous and ominously dangerous. We believe that this sordid and unwarranted situation of Wole Oke-sponsored violence would have been effectively contained if the security agencies had heeded to our cry and indeed the cry of all Esa-Oke indigenes to confront and check this monster, Olasiji said.
