A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rasheed Olalekan Afolabi, has formally resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing what he described as baseless allegations of anti-party activities and an unjust suspension.

In a resignation letter dated 1st July 2025 and addressed to the Chairman of Ward 2, APC, Oke Amola, Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government of Osun State, Afolabi expressed his disappointment over the manner in which the party handled issues concerning him without granting a fair hearing.

“The decision to resign is consequent upon the baseless allegation of anti-party activities levelled against my person and my purported suspension without fair hearing,” Afolabi stated in the letter, a copy of which was obtained by OSUN DEFENDER.

The former federal lawmaker, who represented Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin Federal Constituency between 2019 and 2023, thanked the party for the opportunity to serve and for the achievements recorded during his time in office, but insisted that his resignation takes immediate effect.

He also copied the resignation letter to the APC Ifelodun LG Chapter, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Divisional Police Officer in Ifelodun.

Afolabi, who is popularly known as Asoju Rere and holds the traditional title Otunba Atayese of Adaland, did not disclose his next political move, but sources close to his camp say consultations are ongoing.
