Taye Taiwo,the former Super Eagles defender has linked up with Finnish Veikkausliliga outfit Rovaniemi Palloseura (RoPS) on a one-year contract deal.
Taiwo, who once had his career with another Veikkausliliga side, HJK, last featured for Swedish club AFC Eskilstuna.
He has been with top European teams like Marseille, AC Milan and Dynamo Kiev.
“Taye is a clear leader and winner on the field. I have known him since our time together with HJK,” RoPS head coach Toni Koskela told the club’s official website.
“He is a very physical player and a good football player. Taye has a strong left foot shot, so he will be excellent match for our special situations as well.”
The 32- year-old stated that the decision to join RoPS was an easy one for him after he was contacted by Koskela who was the assistant coach during his time with HJK.
“I was motivated to work with him again. This is also a real dream job to be a soccer player. You can never know which country you are going to find the next day, and now I can bring my expertise to the Rovaniemi Palloseura,” Taiwo he told RoPS’ official website.
The left-back also spoke about his attributes as a defender.
He said: ” I’ve already learned that you can not win every match, but each match can give everything.
” In the field, I do not like to give the opponent room to play, I do not want to give the adversary the pleasure they can control, but I want to be the one who plays and controls.”
