Exposed: Why Osun Govt. Removed Famodun As Owa Of Igbajo
Facts have emerged on the reason behind the nullification of the selection process that led to the emergence of Prince Adegboyega Famodun as the Owa of Igbajo, Boluwaduro local government of Osun State.
In a white paper released on January 18, 2024, the state government announced the nullification of Famodun’s appointment, following the adoption of the report and recommendation of the Chieftaincy Review Committee set up by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Famodun, who was until his selection as a traditional ruler, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, was installed on November 25, 2022, by former governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
However, OSUN DEFENDER has uncovered the facts behind Famodun’s removal 14 months after his installation.
Findings revealed that the chieftaincy review committee established manipulation of the processes that led to Famodun’s selection and subsequent installation.
According to the committee’s reports contained in the white paper released by the government, other contestants to the Owa’s stool were not allowed to participate in the selection process.
The committee reported that “It was established that, though it is the turn of Owa Oke-Ode to ascend the throne of Owa of Igbajo, where Prince Adegboyega Famodun hails from, other contestants were denied a fair hearing and the right to participate in the selection process by the headship of the family and kingmakers.
“It was a pre-planned arrangement with the sole aim of producing Prince Adegboyega Famodun as the new Owa of Igbajo.”
The committee recommended a proper and all-inclusive arrangement wherein all contestants to the throne will be accommodated in the interest of fair play, and equity and in line with the custom and tradition of Owa of Igbajo kingdom.
Acting on the recommendation, the state government nullified the previous selection process which produced Famodun, directing that an all-inclusive selection process for a new Owa nominee should begin.
