Fair Governance Attracting Defectors To APC — Uba Sani

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has said his inclusive leadership style, rooted in fairness, justice and even distribution of development, has continued to attract members of the opposition to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at a mega rally in Kafanchan Township Stadium on Saturday, where Senator Sunday Katung (Southern Kaduna) and three other lawmakers formally defected to the APC, Sani said the state had now become “one big, happy family under the canopy of the APC.”

He recalled that as of May 29, 2023, the opposition parties had 12 members in the House of Representatives while the ruling APC had only four.

However, he said, “In the last two and a half years, 10 of the House of Representatives members have defected from the opposition parties to the APC.

“The PDP had 12 members in the state House of Assembly, but today, seven have joined the APC. That is a sign that we are running an inclusive government. I am also calling on those who are yet to come on board to cross over to our party.”

Those who defected included Hon. Dan Amos (Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency), Hon. Ali Kalat (Jema’a Constituency) and Hon. Yusuf Mugu (Kaura Constituency), alongside thousands of their supporters.

With the new defections, Southern Kaduna — once a stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party since 1999 — has become dominated by the APC, with all elected officials now under the ruling party.

Sani said the development reflected the inclusive nature of his administration, noting that his government had brought infrastructure, healthcare, education and agricultural projects to all parts of the state.

“When we came on board on May 29, 2023, we made it clear that we took a solemn oath to be fair to all, to run an inclusive government and to ensure equitable treatment for everyone, regardless of political, religious or ethnic affiliations,” he said.

He lamented that before his administration, 12 of the 23 local government areas in Kaduna State had not benefited from even a kilometre of road in 12 years. “Today, the story has changed,” he added.

Highlighting some of his projects, Sani said, “In Zangon Kataf, we are constructing a 22-kilometre asphalt road from Madauchi to Kafanchan, almost completed. From Sanga to Jema’a, linking Gwantu to Godogodo, we are constructing a 24-kilometre road, 70 per cent completed. We are also linking Kauru with Kubau through a 28-kilometre road that will soon be commissioned.”

He added that his administration had completed several township roads in Jaba and Kagarko local governments, areas that had not seen road projects in over a decade.

Sani thanked President Bola Tinubu for establishing the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, saying the state government was constructing an access road linking the town to the university.

Representing the President at the rally, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, commended Sani’s leadership and noted that Southern Kaduna had “woken up to the reality of the President’s reforms,” which he said were positively impacting people across the country.

“Thank you for containing terror in the state. Thank you for your giant strides in development,” Gbajabiamila said.

Also speaking, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, described the defection of Senator Katung and Hon. Amos as a “political earthquake,” praising their integrity and service.
