The Students’ Union of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has apprehended a suspected fraudster who allegedly disguised as a luxury lifestyle influencer to exploit unsuspecting female undergraduates.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday, signed by the Union’s President, Adelani David; Secretary-General, Habeeb Isa; and Public Relations Officer, Oreoluwa Olowosile.

The Union said its Security Volunteers received reports on August 23 that a supposed female social media personality had lured students into a WhatsApp group with promises of wealth and a “better life.”

Investigations revealed that the suspect, who posed under the aliases “Priscilla” and “Mira,” had tricked several female students into sexually exploitative schemes without compensation.

The Union noted that many victims were misled by the deceptive promises of easy wealth.

According to the statement, the suspect was picked up by Union Security Volunteers and subjected to interrogation, during which incriminating evidence was uncovered from his online activities.

A full-scale investigation into his WhatsApp and Snapchat accounts is ongoing to identify possible accomplices.

The Union leadership condemned the act, describing it as a grave threat to the dignity and safety of students and the image of the university community.

It assured that all media files linked to the case had been destroyed, warning students to desist from circulating or claiming to have access to such material.

Students who may have been affected were urged to contact Union officers to lodge formal complaints.
