Family Petitions DIG Over Killing Of Nursing Mother, Bricklayer In Ede

THE family of Abideen Olalekan and Kafayat Olalekan who were gruesomely killed in a crisis in Ede, State of Osun, on August 5, 2022 have petitioned the Deputy Inspector General of Police to demand for investigation and justice on the case.

Abideen Olalekan, a bricklayer was allegedly shot dead by a policeman, Adekunle Omoyele, who has been appointed as Chief Security Officer to the Governor-elect, Sen. Ademola Adeleke.

Omoyele was leading the Osun Commissioner of Police’s Surveillance Unit as of the time of the incident.

The late Abideen Olalekan, popularly known as Kuranga was allegedly shot in close range on the order of the Minority Leader of the House of Assembly, State of Osun, Hon. Babajide Kofoworola Adewumi.

But Adewumi said he was nowhere near the junction of Atapa market where the deceased was killed, maintaining that he did not bring any policeman to the town.

Kafayat Olalekan, a nursing mother, was said to be four-month-old pregnant when she was shot dead by unknown persons around 10pm of Friday August 5, at Atapa area of Ede.

Her daughter, Azeenat, was reportedly removed from her back and put on her lifeless body after being shot on her breast.

In a petition dated August 8, 2022 and obtained by OSUN DEFENDER yesterday, the family of the deceased accused Omoyele, the policeman of killing Kafaya Olalekan, after killing her brother in-law, Abideen.

Counsel to the family, Bola Abimbola Ige, urged the Deputy Inspector General of Police to investigate the matter and bring everybody found culpable in the crime to justice.

The petition reads in part: “The gruesome murder of two members of the same family within 12 hours by a police officer whose sole duty is to protect lives and properties leaves much to be desired.

“We therefore call on your good offices to passionately and critically look into this heinous crime against humanity perpetrated by Supol Omoyele and his despicable men.

“We are of the firm belief that the angst this dastardly act has brought can only be assuaged if those responsible are brought to book.

“We look forward to a prompt action that will put an end to the condemnable high-handedness of the police by bringing CSP Omoyele and others found wanting with regard to this unwarranted killing to book.”
