Honourable Ajibola Famurewa, who is the senatorial candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ife/Ijesa district of Osun, has called on the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, to investigate some of his officers for the role played in an attack that took place in Ilesa recently.
Specifically, Famurewa, through a petition written by his solicitor, E. O. Ogunfunminiyi Esq, fingered one Inspector Tope Fajemirokun, Constable Kehinde (Olorunkometa) and Sergent Wemimo for assault occassioning harm, stealing and damage to his posters in Ilesa.
According to the petition, the trio officers, attached to Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi, the present Ife/Ijesa Senator at the Senate carried out the hatchet job on Tuesday 10th January, 2023 at Imo Area of the town.
The petition reads in part, “Our client is the Senatorial Candidate of All Progressive Congress for Ife/ljesa Senatorial District of Osun in the forthcoming general election and he has been carrying out his campaign activities within the Senatorial District as required by the law of the land without any problem.
“However, on Tuesday the 10th day of January 2023, our client as usual sent out his men to paste his campaign posters along the Street at Imo, Ilesa, Osun and all of a sudden, Senator Francis Fadahunsi who is representing Ife/ljesa Senatorial District at the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was passing by and he asked his driver to stop when he saw those people pasting the poster and one Inspector Tope Fajemirokun of A Division of The Nigerian Police Station, Ayeso, Hesa together with one Kehinde (A. K. A. Olorukometa) Constabulary attached to A Division of The Nigerian Police Station, Ayeso, llesa and Sergeant Wemimo attached to Senator Francis Fadahansi jumped out of the vehicle conveying the said Senator and started shooting into the air and within a twinkle of an eye, the whole street has been deserted.
“And they demanded to know who those men were working for and upon hearing the name of our client, they started beating them to a pulp and the said afore mentioned police officers collected all the remaining posters and starch from them and took them away. They were shooting into the air as they were going to escape from the scene of the crime.
“Our client immediately called the DPO of B Division of Nigerian Police Station Ijamo, Ilesa who covers the area and he sent his patrol team to the place immediately but those criminals have left before their arrival. Our client later went to The Nigerian Police Station ‘B’ Division, Ijamo, Ilesa, Osun State to make a formal report.
“They were still at the station when the said officers came to the station at “B” Division, Ijamo, llesa with the posters and starch. They were trying to cover up their crime by telling the DPO of the station that they receive a distress call from someone at Imo who they failed to disclose. Unknown to them our client has called the DPO of “B” Division, Ijamo, Ilesa whose jurisdiction cover the place and he has sent his Patrol team to the scene of the crime.
“The said Senator Fadahunsi was called on phone by the DPO but he refused to pick his call and so he is being investigated at ‘B’ Division of the Nigerian Police Station, ljamo, Ilesa on the allegation of his attack on innocent people carrying out their legitimate duty as citizen of Nigeria and the indiscriminate shooting in the street without any provocation
“We therefore seek for your intervention on behalf of our client by investigating these men of the Nigerian Police Force A Division Ilesa to prevent break down of law and order in Ilesa and the entire Ife/ljesa Senatorial District of Osun. We count on your professional competence and support in handling this matter”.
