A farmer, Ade John has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by an Upper Area Court 3, sitting in Kasuwan Nama in Jos on Wednesday for illegal possession of firearm.
The 35-year-old pleaded guilty to a count charge of illegal possession of firearm. The Judge, Yahaya Mohammed, sentenced the convict to two years imprisonment with an option of N20, 000 fine.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Edwin Oche, told the court that the convict, residing at Dung Village in Jos North, was arrested on April 1 by a team of policemen on patrol.
‘’During a search, a locally made pistol was found on him and after investigation, it was discovered that he does not have a licence for the gun,’’ Mohammed said.
He said that the offence contravened Section 27(i) of the Firearms Act, Cap. F 28 LFN.
