FBI, Others To Release US Investigation Reports On Tinubu May 2
Investigation reports relating to an alleged drug case involving President Bola Tinubu in the 1990s are expected to be released on Friday, May 2, following a US court order.
Agencies directed to release the documents include the US Attorneys, Department of State, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
This order was issued by Judge Beryl Howell of the US District Court for the District of Columbia in early April.
The judge ruled that the agencies—except the CIA—must jointly file the reports, stressing that withholding such information is “neither logical nor plausible,” according to Premium Times.
The case was initiated by American citizen Aaron Greenspan in June 2023 under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), accusing the agencies of violating the law by failing to release requested documents on time.
Between 2022 and 2023, Greenspan submitted 12 FOIA requests seeking information about an investigation involving Tinubu and three others—Lee Andrew Edwards, Mueez Abegboyega Akande, and Abiodun Agbele—who were allegedly linked to a drug ring.
Legal experts say the order can be appealed.
Meanwhile, the Presidency maintains that the documents contain nothing new and do not implicate President Tinubu.
