Police detectives at the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID annexe Alagbon, Lagos, it arrested a three man syndicate that specialized in forging the Nigeria Police Character Certificate for unsuspecting Nigerians travelling out of the country.
OSUN DEFENDER gathered that the syndicate ran out of luck after an unsuspecting female victim (names withheld) who was issued the fake document and presented the same while processing her visa application at the United Kingdom embassy, in Lagos.
She was reportedly refused a visa and was also banned from entering the UK for 10 years, when the document was discovered to be fake.
Upon receipt of the report, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, FCID, AIG Idowu Owohunwa, reportedly set up a special operation to smoke out members of the syndicate.
Spokesperson for the FCID, ASP Aminat Mayegun, who brief journalsists on the arrest, said the special sting operation that led to their apprension, was launched on November 16,2023.
Describing the offence as conspiracy and Forgery, she said, “consequent upon the operation, three suspects were initially arrested. They include Chinedu Agbosim, who is the owner of the shop and principal suspect. Others nclude Mariam Dauda and Ebighose Anderson who are the computer operators recruited by Chinedu Agbosin to perfect the crime.
“The suspects admitted to their individual and common roles in processing the fake Police Character Certificates at a side shop around the Federal Training Center, Ikoyi, Lagos.
“Upon executing a search warrant in the shop, the following items were recovered therein: three counterfeit Police Character Certificates and other relevant documents belonging to various Nigerian citizens; a computer-generated signature specimen bearing the name of CP CCR, CP Olaolu Adegbite and dated November 16, 2023 ; a computer-generated document bearing the super-imposed signature of CP Ndu, I.M., the former CCR, CP Ndu I.M and a desktop computer used by the syndicate to perfect the crime.
”While the special operation continues, the arrested suspects will in due course be charged to court”, Mayegun stated.
