Fear Grips Osun Community As Farmer Stabbed To Death
Palpable fear has enveloped Ipetumodu, a town in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State, following the gruesome killing of a farmer, Akeem Jimoh, whose lifeless body was discovered on his farmland on Thursday.
Jimoh was said to have left his residence in Ipetumodu for his farm located along the boundary between Ipetumodu and the neighbouring town of Asipa at about 7 am.
However, by midday, news filtered into the community that he had been murdered by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
According to a relative of the deceased, who pleaded anonymity over fear of reprisal, the matter was quickly reported to the Amotekun Corps, who immediately mobilised a search team. His corpse was eventually discovered at about 12:30 pm.
“Akeem went to the farm very early. But not long after, the Amotekun operatives found his body. He was killed on the farm. They brought his body to the Ipetumodu Police Division, and the atmosphere was tensed. People were angry and afraid,” the source told PUNCH on Friday.
The situation was said to have caused chaos in the community as residents expressed displeasure over the killing and demanded that the perpetrators be brought to justice.
Security operatives on ground had to appeal to the irate residents to remain calm, assuring them that investigations had commenced.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Ojelabi, said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was stabbed.
“The deceased was identified as Akeem Jimoh. Those who reported the case to the Ipetumodu Division mentioned some suspects. Although no arrest has been made yet, a full investigation is ongoing,” she said.
She added that the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department and assured the public that the command would leave no stone unturned in unravelling the circumstances surrounding the killing.
